Temporary relocation of Atkinson Health Centre in Barrow following fire

Posted on Tuesday 17th July 2012

Staff and GPs from Atkinson Health Centre based on Market Street in Barrow have had to temporarily relocate to Furness General Hospital following a fire in the building yesterday.

Firefighters were called to the building yesterday (16th July) afternoon after smoke was seen coming from the building.

Following the small fire the building is now being assessed for damage before advice can be given about when staff and patients can return to the building again.

Staff will be contacting patients with non-urgent routine appointments to rearrange until more information on the safety of the building is known.

The surgery will continue to offer urgent appointments only, but on a temporary basis from the GP out of hours room at the Hospital.

Patients should contact the surgery on a temporary phone number: 01229 403589. Staff will be able to advise patients on where to go.
