Hundreds in Furness share their views on local NHS

Posted on Thursday 31st May 2012

Over two hundred people stopped for a chat at yesterday’s Furness GP Roadshow.

The Roadshow which took place in Asda car park in Barrow was the fourth roadshow event in Cumbria as local GPs ask to hear local people’s views on all NHS services.

Blood pressure checks and stop smoking advice as also available at the event which encouraged people to share their experiences of the NHS and if any changes could have improved this.

The event was part of Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) doctor led 'Listening to Cumbria' campaign. The campaign aims to encourage the public to share more views about local NHS services and explains how doctors will be more involved in deciding how and where services should be delivered in Cumbria in the future.

Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) which will replace NHS Cumbria, the primary care trust next year as the organisation making local health commissioning decisions in the county.

‘Commissioning’ means planning and purchasing NHS services for local people from hospital trusts and other organisations.

Dr Geoff Jolliffe is a Barrow GP and local commissioning lead for Furness. He said: “The roadshow was a great opportunity to get out and meet people outside the surgery. I really enjoyed talking to people and hearing their views on local health services. I also had a few honest discussions with people about the difficult decisions we sometimes have to make and how and where local health service decisions are made, as we only have one pot of money to do as much as we can.

“I hope that people found it useful and I certainly learnt a lot about the areas where I hope we can do more in the future.”
