Building work on schedule for Cleator Moor Health Centre

Work on the new Cleator Moor Health Centre is on schedule despite the wet summer weather. Doctors are now looking forward to providing improved services for patients when the new facilities open next year.

The developers are approaching a major milestone, when the roof is installed on the building - also called “topping out”. This will ensure the unit are wind and watertight before the winter sets in so that no delay is caused by any adverse weather in the coming months.

Gas, electricity and water services are in the process of being connected up to the new building which will lead to some disruption in the roads and footpaths outside the site in the next few weeks. The contractor are working closely with the utilities providers to ensure that any disruption can be kept to a minimum.

Work on the new £4 million Cleator Moor Health Centre is expected to be completed by spring 2013 with services moving in over the following weeks.

Dr David Rogers, lead commissioning GP for Copeland, said: “Cleator Moor is an area in need of better health facilities. The new health centre will be an important resource when completed.

“This, combined with the investment at Cockermouth marks a big step-forward for health care in west Cumbria and will help enable us to plan and provide the best services for our patients”

The development is being managed by eLIFT Cumbria, NHS Cumbria's development partner.
