Free exercise sessions to kick start your new year's resolutions

Posted on Tuesday 7th January 2014

Residents in Eden have the opportunity to kick start their New Year’s fitness resolutions with a free exercise session.

The major commissioner of NHS health services in Cumbria, NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and North Country Leisure in Eden are working together to help people make 2014 the year they discover the health benefits of exercise.

Health Information Sessions are being hosted in Penrith and Appleby to highlight what types of exercise is best for each individual, the role of healthy eating in a healthy lifestyle, weight management and how to quit smoking.

NHS Cumbria CCG’s Lead GP, Rachel Preston said: “These two sessions will give local people the opportunity to find out more about the facilities available in their area and the real health benefits of exercise.

“As well as information, those attending will be able to enjoy the gym, have a swim or join a fitness class by claiming their free one day guest pass to Appleby or Penrith Leisure Centres.”

Eden Contract Manager for NCL, Tim Bestford said: “North Country Leisure the leisure provider at both Penrith and Appleby centres are pleased to be working in partnership with the NHS to promote Healthy Lifestyles in the local Community by providing opportunities to learn and take advantage of the wide range of facilities available at each site and in the surrounding areas”

The Health Information Sessions will be held at Penrith Leisure Centre on January 21 and Appleby Squash Club on January 30, both from 6.30-8.30pm. To book a place call or text 07787 837526 or email amy.aitken@cumbriaccg.nhs.uk| .
