Living with and beyond cancer

North Cumbria Cancer Patient and Carer Advisory Panels are hosting an event for anyone who has been touched and affected by cancer. The event will give support for patients, their families and health professionals who care for cancer patients.

The Cancer Survivorship Event, “Living With and Beyond Cancer” will take place at the Greenhill Hotel, Wigton on Saturday, March 15, 2014.

The one-day event is open to all people who have been touched and affected by cancer and aims to offer details of local services available, self-help tips, as well as the chance to meet others with similar experiences. The day will include talks, short workshops and information stalls. It will be a great opportunity to hear practical tips for improving lifestyle and living well, beyond cancer. Patients and professionals will gain by sharing their perspectives and from hearing more about national initiatives to support cancer survivors.

Speakers at the event will cover topics such as: the benefits of physical activity, living with uncertainty, relaxation, healthy eating and financial advice.

More and more people are surviving their cancer, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have long term side effects; they may have emotional and physical problems such as depression or fatigue. This event aims to raise everyone’s awareness and provide some practical solutions.

Over recent years we have seen great improvements in Cancer survival rates, thanks to medical advancements, however this is only half the battle. It is also about improving patients’ experience of care and the quality of life for cancer survivors. This one day event is an opportunity for patients, their family, friends, carers and professionals to work together to achieve this in Cumbria.

Anyone wishing to attend can book their free place for the event at the Greenhill Hotel, Wigton on Saturday March 15 from 9.30am to 4.30pm by calling Susan Collins on 01900 812557 and leaving a message or email susancollins1@talktalk.net|
