GPs urge people to get repeat prescriptions in time for the New Year

Posted on Wednesday 30th December 2015

GPs are urging people who take regular medicines to make sure they have sufficient supplies to last them over the New Year holidays.

Dr Geoff Jolliffe, clinical chair for NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Over the Christmas holidays people may have used up their regular prescription drugs or the remedies they buy over the counter. We would urge them to make sure they have everything they need to last them into next week.”

Many pharmacies will be open over the weekend and can also offer advice.

People in Cumbria are urged only to use 999 and A+E services if it is a serious accident or life threatening illness. NHS 111 is free to call and able to offer medical advice. The website www.nhs.uk| also has helpful information.

More advice to help people stay well this winter can be found at www.nhs.uk/staywell| which provides winter health advice, information about how to treat everyday winter illnesses and, if needed, where to go to for help.

As Cumbria continues to be battered by severe weather there is also practical advice for people who are affected by flooding at http://www.cumbriaccg.nhs.uk/news/floods-2015.aspx|
