NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group seeks new Lay Members to join Governing Body

NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is looking for two Lay Members, one for Finance & Governance and the other for Quality & Performance, to join its Governing Body and help to make a real difference to the healthcare of North Cumbria. These vacancies are due to two member’s term of office coming to an end on the 30 June 2018.

Both members will play an extremely important role in making sure our organisation takes a balanced and informed view in all areas of our commissioning activities. Lay Members also challenge the organisation to ensure all the decisions it makes are informed, fair and will be safe and sustainable for the people of North Cumbria. In addition, as a member of the Governing Body, they share responsibility to ensure that the CCG exercises its functions effectively, efficiently, economically, with good governance and in accordance with the terms of the CCG Constitution.

The CCG is responsible for commissioning the majority of healthcare services in North Cumbria.

Applicants:

  • Must not be subject to any disqualification criteria for Governing Body Members;
  • Have an understanding of the North Cumbria Health & Social Care System or the North Cumbria area;
  • Be able to hold others to account and probe and challenge constructively;
  • Understand the difference between governance and management;
  • Be able to chair meetings effectively
  • Be able to uphold the standards of conduct set out in ‘The Seven Principles of Public Life’;
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
  • Have the ability to influence and persuade others, articulating a balanced view and provide constructive challenge and feedback.

This role will have a time commitment of up to 4 days per month. Remuneration for this role is £13,250 per annum. Members are also eligible to claim allowances for travel and subsistence costs incurred necessarily on CCG business. However, further discussions will be undertaken with any successful candidates from outside North Cumbria, regarding the extent of these allowances.
